Wornick Awards Exhibition
About the Wornick Award:
The Ronald and Anita Wornick Award was established by the Wornick Company to recognize, nourish, and encourage talented students in the wood arts at California College of the Arts. Ronald C. Wornick (1932–2021) was a gifted amateur wood artist, and served on the CCA Board of Trustees for 29 years.
I collaborated with CCA's Advancement department to establish an exhibit identity, and design a few key deliverables to commemorate the 2023 exhibit and event. While the college has its own set of brand guidelines, I was granted some permission to stray a bit away from the normal. Like any other identity, we needed to ensure this still resembled CCA's culture, so I opted to pull in their color palette and logos appropriately.

Inspiration
The Wornick Exhibition is an annual event, and every year warrants a new albeit on brand design experience for the exhibit and college. This year's inspiration came from my love of the Swiss International Style and the grid. What I love about the grid is the structure, the ability to organize elements, and finding ways to break the grid to create tension.

These are quick thumbnail sketches to capture some grid structures based on the inspiration. The first iteration of this exhibit would be the poster. This poster in a sense becomes the brand style guide for the exhibit, and sets the tone for the other assets.

Brand Elements

Staying on the Swiss front, I landed on an updated take on a grotesque sans typeface. Aktiv Grotesk by Dalton Maag is bit Helvetica and a bit Univers.
